Task of the Week - June 10th:
Sindarin:
A (a guard at the borders of Lorien): Daro! Ae, mae lâovannen! B (a travelling Elf from Mithlond): Suil! Se i âland LothlĂłrien? A: E! Man i eneth lĂŽn, mellon? B: I eneth nĂŽn Saillach. A len? A: Im eston Egnasson, an verion i nĂ´r hen nâecthel. Ci maedol hĂ, nathlo!
English (my translation):
A: (a guard at the borders of Lorien): Wait! Ah, well met! B: (a travelling Elf from Mithlond): Greetings! Is this the border of LothlĂłrien? A: It is! What is your name, friend? B: My name is Saillach. And yours? A: I am called Egnasson, for I protect these lands with a spear. Youâre welcome here!
At first they speak to each other formally, you can see this by the usage of the pronouns l', i ... lĂŽn and len. After they have changed names, however, A speaks to B informally, using the pronoun Ci.

A: Im eston Egnasson, an verion i nĂ´r hen nâecthel. Ci maedol hĂ, nathlo! 1) Translate the dialogue. Black is for everyone, Green is for advanced students (and anyone who wants to have a go of course!) 2) Do they speak formally or informally to each other? Why? Read more: sindarinlessonsforum.boards.net/thread/354/task-week-revitalised?page=1&scrollTo=3233#ixzz5IDSw4TPG MY ANSWERS : A:Daro!Ah, well met! B:Greetings! Se i 'land LothlĂłrien? A:E! What is your name, friend? B:My name is Saillach. And you? A: I call myself Egnasson, an vernon I nĂ´r hen n'ecthel. You are welcome here, welcome! The first four lines are formally because they just met, and the last line is informal "Ci" because they became friends I guess...

Sindarin: A (a guard at the borders of Lorien): Daro!
English translation:
A: Halt! A, Well met! B: Greetings! Is this the border to Lothlorien? A: Indeed! What is your name friend? B: My name is Saillach, and Yours? A: I call myself Egnasson, For I protect the Land with spear! You are welcome here!! Be my guest!
B speaks to A formally because of the useage of l in l'ovannen, lĂŽn & len! However when they change names A speaks to B informally due to " Ci" because of their new accquintence!
